DIVISION B
Helions Bumpstead 4
West Row Gunners 3
THE final league game of the season for Helions was a dress rehearsal for the League Cup Final set for four days later at Newmarket.
On the astro turf at Linton, Helions once again opened
the brighter as in their two previous matches on this surface and could have sealed the result within the first 15 minutes but for missed chances.
However Paul Hunt did strike in the third minute to give Helions the lead with a stunning shot which looped over the West Row keeper from 25 yards out.
Then Mat Cowell and Chris Long just missed the target. Paul Hunt headed wide before he made amends on the 30th minute by once again finishing well to claim a personal double. At the break Helions led 2-0 and looked comfortable.
However four minutes into the restart West Row Gunners made it 2-1 and then on the hour mark levelled and were back in the match.
A dual substitution by Helions manager Dave West, bringing on fullback James Morris and striker Tom Day on the 70th minute, was to prove decisive when Hunt played across for Day to drive home confidently to take the lead once more.
Helions then made it four with a drive from distance from Mike Tannenbaum soon after, before the visitors claimed a third just before the end.
So Helions finish with a victory but slip to a disappointing final league position of fourth but were hoping for a similar favourable result in the cup final yesterday against West Row Gunners.
