Eastern Women's League Division Two NW
St Neots 1 Haverhill 0

Haverhill were again left empty handed after a strong performance against the team that routed them 5-0 at home in October.

They travelled to St Neots on Saturday, eager to show the mid-table team how much they had improv
ed, and for 66 minutes kept the hosts at bay while coming close to a surprise victory.

The visitors created some good chances from open play and Elaine Ward shot wide from a short corner, but neither side dominated the game.

In a repeat of last week's last-minute defeat to league leaders Lincoln, St Neots won a short corner four minutes before the end and, despite Debbie Petrucci doing well to keep out the first shot, she was powerless to stop the second from being fired into the corner.

After the game, St Neots said Haverhill were 'a different team' to the one they had thrashed earlier in the season, a testament to the visitors' improvement as they fight to avoid the drop.

Captain Tina Bunch said: "We had a good 60 minutes of play and then four from the end we had a repeat of the previous week with a late, late goal and we just couldn't get back into the game.

"We had chances to score ourselves but it just wasn't going in, though we contained them really well and I just couldn't see how they would score.

"We packed out the midfield as they ran the show from there when we played them before but this time we forced them to chase it and make mistakes."

Haverhill next play against Cambridge Nomads tomorrow.
