THE close of the Cambridge & District Table Tennis League has seen improvement on last season across the board from Haverhill's three teams.
The first team amassed a total of 145 points from their 22 games and once again finished third in the top flight trailing second placed St Ives by just five points.

Tony Reardon takes the club's top honours with a return of 47 singles wins from 6
3 games played, resulting in a season average of 74.6 per cent making him a top ten player throughout the league based on qualifying appearances.

Tony's effort was well supported by Rob Cushen and Maria Boulton who both put in solid seasons once again.

Haverhill II turned a fourth bottom finish from last season into a fourth top finish this year in Division Two with Caroline Wright showing the way with 34 singles wins from 57 games played.

The second team suffered defeat in only six matches this season compared with 14 defeats last year, so a vast improvement and something for them to build on next season in an effort to push back up into the top flight.

Haverhill III, after gaining promotion last season into Division Three and toying with relegation for most of their first year at this level showed greater quality this season with a just below mid-table final position.

Alex Austin, returning from injury chipped in with a very respectable 26 wins from 45 games leaving his season average just shy of the 60 per cent mark.

Neil Farlie and John Vale were regulars in the effort to improve on last year and without the unfortunate side-lining mid-season of Danny Page through injury, the thirds could have gone on to make a top half finish.

Haverhill Table Tennis club nights will resume again in the autumn and anyone wishing to join the club either to play competitive table tennis or to just play a few games with other club members on Monday nights should contact Colin Cushen on 01440 761425 for further details.
