IT was a bad weekend for our league leaders as three of them suffered defeats, but fortunately two managed to hold on to top spot.
Babraham lost in Senior One and Thurlow lost in Junior 1B but had a large enough lead to stay ahead while Linton Village were comfortably beaten in Senior Three to lose their place at the summit.

Senior Two leaders Balsham were the only side to buck the trend as they kept up their perfect record of ten wins from ten matches played.

Wes Potschul (54) and Glen Goosen (56no) led Sawston to a much-needed victory in Tucker Gardner Premier League Division One.

After Jason Langdon, Martin Heginbotham and Dirk McCormick all took two wickets in reducing third-placed March Town to 181-8, it was left to Potschul and Goosen to knock off most of the runs and hand Sawston a surprise win.

Abington suffered a heavy defeat in Tucker Two as they and Weston Colville continue to battle against relegation to the Senior League.

Patrick Joseph (115) and Lawrence Farnum (157) both hit centuries, securing a second-wicket partnership of 255 in the process, for league-leaders Foxton, as their Caribbean players dominated the innings.

Stuart Duquemin did his best to fight back for Abington by taking four wickets, but Foxton reached 324-7.

In reply, captain David Pimblett top-scored with 59 but Abington were never in it after the damage suffered in the first innings.

Weston Colville were skittled for 175 in their clash with Fordham, but only picked up five wickets in their innings and were soundly beaten.

John Woodgate’s 58 was not enough for Babraham as their Cheffins CCA Senior League Division One promotion challenge suffered a dent.

Woodgate top-scored for Babraham but no other player made it past 26 and they were bowled out for 167 at third-placed Camden II.

Babraham’s bowlers did their best to defend that score and Camden II were in trouble at 128-6.

But a seventh-wicket partnership of 43 between Cheyne Cikoja (33no) and Matthew Merry (14no) meant Babraham suffered a loss as Camden II reached their target in the 42nd over.

That win was a boost for Horseheath’s outside chance of promotion to the Tucker Gardner Premier League as they rediscovered their form to thrash Barrington by nine wickets.

Rob Ketteridge took four wickets, Martin Giles got three, Gary Ellis got two and Martin Towers took a wicket from his only bowl of the match as Horseheath skittled their visitors for 84.

Dan Goldsmith led the way in reply with 53no as Horseheath cruised home.

Balsham’s perfect season continued in Senior Two as they won for the tenth time in a row, by eight wickets at home to City of Ely.

Linton Village were ousted from the top of the Senior Three by the team they lost at on Saturday.

Simon Wedlock and David Gleeson both took three wickets as Linton restricted Great Chishill to 206-9 but Linton’s batting let them down with Guy Savory the only man past 20 as they crashed to 128 all out.
