HUNTS COUNTY BATS SUFFOLK CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
Mellis 232-5 beat Haverhill Sunday 147 by 85 runs.

HAVERHILL were away at Mellis on Sunday, playing only the second game on a newly-created ground.

Considering this, the track played well in what is a beautiful setting.

Mellis won the toss
and batted, soon showing what a formidable force they are with their present line-up .

Openers Box and Chris Farrant settled into a steady run rate, dominated by Farrant’s very powerful hitting.

It wasn’t until the 23rd over that Steve Saville broke the partnership with the score on 117.

Four more wickets fell in the Mellis innings, three going to the bowling of Russell Davis .

The innings was dominated though by a wonderful knock of 116 from Farrant and the innings closed at 232-5.

Haverhill’s reply got off to a stuttering start with both openers Adrian Wigan and Neil Mitchell going cheaply.

A good partnership of 55 was formed between Liam Savage and Dan Poole before Savage was out for 28.

Poole showed once again what a quality batsman he is, amassing 64 as partners came and went around him.

Three wickets went to a veteran Mellis spinner, whose bewitching flight and varying spin produced three stumpings.

The innings closed with three overs to spare, Haverhill all out 147.

Next game is away to Tuddenham on Sunday.
