MIXED DIVISION TWO

Haverhill 6 Wickham Bishops B 3

ALL three Haverhill pairs won two sets to secure the town side’s third victory in a row, on Monday night.

Marcia Armstrong and partner Derek Bish won the opening set 6-0, against Muriel Step
hens and Colin Bellett, but Bishops were quickly level after Abi Cartwright-Thomas and Nigel Fitch lost 6-1 to Trudy Easter and Alex Cane.

Lucy Hardwick and Ian Terry restored Haverhill’s advantage with a 6-4 success over Jan Rochester and Gary Cutting.

Haverhill quickly opened up an unassailable lead as Cartwright-Thomas and Fitch beat Rochester and Cutting 6-2, Armstrong and Bish saw off Easter and Cane 6-3 and Hardwick and Terry edged out Stephens and Bellett.

With the match already won, Haverhill eased off slightly and there were final set defeats for Hardwick and Terry, 6-3 to easter and Caner, and Armstrong and Bish, 6-4 to Rochester and Cutting.

But Cartwright-Thomas and Fitch beat Stephens and Bellett 7-5 to deny the visitors a bonus point.

MEN’S DIVISION ONE

Braintree 7 Haverhill 2

HAVERHILL suffered their second defeat in a row, this time at the hands of Braintree as they continue to struggle following promotion.

Braintree’s Ash Baker and Joe Bardell won 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 against Adam Fowle and Pete Cannon, Mike Freed and Ian Terry and Nigel and Ross Tobin respectively.

Tim Brettmey and Will Bardell won 6-1, 6-3, 7-6 against those pairs but Freed and Terry and Fitch and Tobin each won a set off Luke Kelly and Dave Doleman.

Fowle and Cannon lost 6-2 to Kelly and Doleman.
