HAVERHILL Rovers Reserves have the chance to be crowned the best reserve team in the Ridgeons League for the second year in a row when they take on Lowestoft Town Reserves on Saturday.
The two sides will meet at Diss Town’s Brewers Green Lane for the Ridgeons Reserve League Divisional Championship play-off, kick-off at 3pm.
The match brings together the South Division (Haverhill) and North Division (Lowestoft) champions from the
Ridgeons Reserve League and it is one Rovers player manager Ben Cowling is confident of victory in, even though his side will start as underdogs.
“I can’t see us losing,” he said. “We’ve just played so well in the run in and I don’t remember us being under any pressure.
“Lowestoft are the clear favourites given what they have done in their league but we’ve got some players in they haven’t seen and have got a different system.”
The two sides met last year in the Chell Trophy, playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Lowestoft before losing 2-0 at Hamlet Croft in the second leg, but on both occasions Haverhill fielded a number of first team players looking to get some minutes under their belts.
The only players with notable first team experience this season likely to feature are fringe players Harry Halls and Tom Kirk, as well as striker Shaun Banham, because the reserves’ leading frontman Craig Cutts is out injured.
“This is probably the biggest game you can have at reserve level,” said Cowling. “You have played all season to get there so it’s no fluke and I’m just looking forward to it so much.
“It would be nice to get some supporters over there because Lowestoft will take a lot with them so the more we take the better.”
