HAVERHILL Cricket Club captain Rob Sullivan hailed the value of experience after his side won their second match in a row to move into the promotion places.
Greg Street and Simon Youngs put on a match-winning partnership of 51 to push Haverhill over the line against Kelvedon & Feering and send them into Saturday's match with Mistley full of confidence.

But although Haverhill moved into second with tha
t victory, Sullivan knows it is still very early days.

"I think I'm very much a realist," he said. "This week we are playing Mistley who came down from Division One, so depending on how we go against them we will know how good a year it will be.

"It's still a case of wait and see.

"We've got a reasonably strong side out so we'll look at this game as being a yardstick."

Adam Dellar again top scored with the bat while Scott Webb took five wickets with the ball but it was Street and Youngs who made the difference after batting superbly when Haverhill found themselves six wickets down and still 50 runs short of Kelvedon's score.

"We had some experienced heads to take us over the line at the end," said Sullivan, who took two wickets of his own.

"They just kept plugging away and a couple of big strikes towards the end and it was game over."

Youngster Dellar added to last week's 137 not out with 54 against Kelvedon, but wasn't used in the bowling attack.

However, Sullivan said it wasn't because Dellar had struggled with the ball against Witham but because of Haverhill's excellent strength in depth.

"I didn't want to really try the spin from both ends again," said Sullivan. "I needed to try something different.

"Sam Powell bowled superbly. At one stage they were starting to get away from us and Sam Powell came on and started to put the pressure on.

"With the added pressure I was then able to bring on Scott Webb, so we continued to apply the pressure and then Simon Youngs chipped in.

"The ability to bowl line and length was important but that's not to say Adam won't be rendered because we do have a number of bowling options."

Neil Winter and Bill Moran are both unavailable for Saturday's match with Dave Godwin and Russell Davis in line to replace them.
