GUY Savory led the way for Linton Village yet again as they bounced back from last week's defeat to Burwell to enhance their promotion credentials at the top of Cheffins CCA Senior League Division Three.
Jonathan Gleeson took four wickets as Linton dismissed Little Downham for 114 and then Savory had a decent knock of 72 not out to guide his side to a comfortable win.
Elsewhere, Babraham, Balsham, Thurlow and Sawston III held on to the lead of their respective leagues.
Sawston slipped into the Tucker Gardner Premier League Division One relegation zone despite a hard-fought draw at league leaders Nassington.
After watching Nassington make 241-6, Sawston remained steady in reply and batted out their overs to gain seven points while Nassington took 14.
But it wasn’t enough after Cambridge Granta II scored a surprise win over Wisbech Town.
Both Abington and Weston Colville suffered defeats in Tucker Two.
Abington managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in theirs, at home to promotion-chasing Cambridge NCI.
Will Earl made 100 not out as Abington batted well on a green wicket to get to 213-4 and restricted NCI in reply.
But with the visitors needing 16 off the last seven balls and with only a single wicket left Nick Avery, who had taken four wickets, conceded 11 off a single ball as he threw in three no balls and a wide and one was hit for a boundary.
NCI still nearly handed victory to Abington but two run out chances were missed and a catch dropped by the home side in the final over with NCI snatching it on the final ball.
Adam Taylor hit 79, 52 of which came off 14 consecutive balls, and Alex Meddle reached 48 as Colville posted 198-7 against third-placed Waresley.
But with a revised Waresley target of 183 in place, four of their batsmen posted scores of 30 or more to push them past the winning target, despite Adrian Westley’s best efforts with three wickets.
Babraham’s promotion bandwagon was halted by the rain in Senior One but Horseheath’s seems to have come to a standstill as well after a second loss on the spin.
After making 203-9, led by Rob Ketteridge’s 60, Horseheath couldn’t defend their target and lost by four wickets to Doddington, who gained just their second victory of the season with that result.
Balsham’s perfect season continued as they won for the ninth time in the nine matches they’ve played.
Even third-placed March Town II were no match for them.
Balsham reached 194-8 off their allocated overs and then proceeded to bowl out March for 172.
Sawston II suffered a heavy defeat against Milton after only making 92.
Thurlow had the easiest win of the day as they cruised past Barley to hold on to the lead of Stumps and Studs CCA Junior League Division 1B by nine wickets.
Thurlow dismissed Barley for just 55 with Luke Kingston (10-3-13-4) and Peter Hulyer (4.2-2-2-3) leading the way and the runs needed were knocked off in no time at all.
Whittlesford also found themselves bowled out in the 50s as they lost to Longstowe by six wickets.
Sawston III gave Helions Bumpstead a cricket lesson as they thrashed them by 79 runs in Junior 3C.
