LEE Sharp crowned a memorable treble for Haverhill Rovers Reserves on Friday night with a brave goal that saw his name written into Rovers history.
It was the first time the Reserves have won a county cup and they did it courtesy of Sharp's sixth minute goal but the forward badly damaged his knee in the process and played no further part.
Not since 1997 has any Rovers senior side won a county
competition but that record became the latest to be broken this season by Peter Betts' charges.
Sharp flicked the ball past static Wanderers keeper Peter Stephens but turned his knee sharply in the process and after a five minute delay he was carried off and replaced by Phil Hammond.
Young goalkeeper Tom Edwards wasn't troubled much at all, only having to gather a shot from Tom Cooke but his opposite number had to flip over Ben Cowling's flying header.
Stephens was a bundle of nerves everytime a cross went in and from one Cody Frazier saw a shot cleared off the line while Edwards had to be alert to clear Lee Hurkett's badly underhit backpass.
More nerves from Stephens allowed Thomas a chance but the keeper recovered to save.
Jenkin saw a cross-cum-shot fumbled onto the woodwork after the break but Rovers' hearts were in mouths when Thomas headed past Edwards but wide of the goal.
Phil Hammond and Jenkin should have confirmed the win late on but both missed good chances.
However, they had done enough to be presented with the trophy and complete a magnificent treble.
