HAVERHILL Rovers chairman Steve Brown is in discussions with two managers about taking over the vacant role at Hamlet Croft and an appointment could be made by the end of the week.
Ex-AFC Sudbury boss Mark Morsley, who quit the Ryman League Club just last week, has been linked with the job but Mr Brown refused to confirm names at the moment, though he expected to hear back from one candidate yesterday and another tomorrow.

C
aptain Marcus Hunt had been Rovers' caretaker player/manager since Steve Taylor and then Colin Vowden both quit the club within the space of three days in March.

"I'm talking to two people at the moment and I'm not going to say who they are because both of them have other offers in the pot," said Mr Brown.

"If they both want it then we shall interview them both.

"I've said to the players we will have a manager in by the AGM and I'm pretty confident we will get that done."

He added: "The bigger picture is the new ground and what's got to happen there with the youth team.

"It's no good bringing someone on board who's not going to be in tune with that so they have both gone away to think about it."

Rovers were rocked this week by reserve team manager Peter Betts' announcement that he was leaving his post to go and coach in America for six months.

However, that role is expected to be filled internally, with the club's favoured target expected to confirm his appointment this week.

Mr Brown refused to accept Hunt's claims that the committee was 'depleted' but understood his frustrations after being let down by so many players before the Leiston defeat.

"The committee is still strong," said Mr Brown. "Karen (Smith) is standing down as secretary but wants to stay on the committee and the committee is as committed as they were.

"There isn't going to be much change unless we get some more on board, which we are always looking out for."
