HAVERHILL Rovers striker Martin Westcott insists he has nothing to prove when he faces his old club Ely City on Friday night.
The 31-year-old frontman had a couple of spells at Ely but, after breaking his wrist last summer, struggled to win his place back in the team before transferring back to Rovers in October, just six months after leaving the Croft for the Fens.
Since the striker’s return to Hamlet Croft, he has found his shooting boots, netting nine times in 13 appearances despite playing as a lone forward in most of those games.
“The real issue at Ely was I broke my wrist and was out for the best part of three months,” said Westcott.
“They obviously assembled a squad without me so, when I came back, they already had their team in place.
“It was a case of trying to get fit but not playing so Haverhill offered me the chance and it was a bit like coming home.”
Although he classes Royston as his club, Haverhill Rovers has certainly gained a place in Westcott’s heart and he now aims to end his playing days at Hamlet Croft, whether Rovers stay up or go down.
“Haverhill is probably where I’ve played my second highest number of games and I don’t think I’ll move clubs again,” he said.
