DIVISION TWO

Kelvedon & Feering 114 lost to Haverhill 118-0 by ten wickets.

MARTYN Wilkins rolled back the years and put in a vintage bowling performance to help Haverhill win their third consecutive match, against Kelvedon & Feering at Manor Road on Saturday.

Captain Adam Dellar won the toss and put the visitors into bat.

The covers had again done their job but the outfield was still damp due to the fine English weather of this summer.

Opening bowlers Josh Meekings (5-1-14-1) and Joe Woodley (6-1-16-2) did their job as the visitors struggled early on.

Both could have had more wickets as two confident caught behinds were not given.

With overcast conditions and the wicket giving some assistance, up stepped seasoned campaigners Wilkins and Simon Youngs.

The pair bowling in tandem gave very little to hit as they blew away the opposition.

Only Lees (21) and Warner showed any backbone as Kelvedon were dismissed for just 114.

After the marvellous effort by the two elder statesmen of the team, Youngs returned to the pavilion with figures of 12-3-29-2 but it was Wilkins who stole the headlines with season’s best figures of 13.3-2-44-5.

Haverhill’s struggle to put an opening partnership together this season was ended by Neil Winter (58no) and Scott Webb (53no) as they knocked off the runs in just 22 overs.

Winter looked back to somewhere near his best as his straight drives came more to the fore as his innings developed, while Webb’s classic cover drives were a joy to watch.

That victory pushed Haverhill up to third in the league, 3.80 average points behind Mistley and Exning.

The town side play both over the next fortnight, as they attempt to push themselves into the promotion race, with nearly a full squad to choose from.
