MILDENHALL YOUTH INVITATION CUP

Mildenhall Town 1

Haverhill Rovers 1

(Rovers won 4-2 on penalties)

THE game started at a blistering pace with Mildenhall attacking down the slope.

The Rovers defence of Branch, Benjamin, Goff and Wyatt
played brilliantly, soaking up the pressure.

Rovers found their feet and the midfield of Allen, Bavester, Edwards, Ashcroft and Merritt started to take the game to the home side.

After Pearson was fouled 30 yards out Bavester took a free-kick that gave the goalkeeper no chance.

But with ten minutes to go Mildenhall won a corner and after a goalmouth scramble it was tucked in at the near post.

In the penalty shoot-out Bavester, Merritt, Edwards and Durrant scored while Sweeney saved one of Mildenhall's penalties to give Rovers the cup.

CAMBS COLTS LEAGUE DIVISION C

St Ives Rangers 0

Hundon Hawks 2

A VERY long season for Hawks closed with a comfortable win against second bottom St Ives to finish third in Division C.

Two Tom Lock goals in the first half put Hawks in control of a game in which they were never really threatened.

The windy conditions and bumpy pitch were not particularly conducive to good passing football but Hawks played some really entertaining and enjoyable football to watch.

As so often this season they just couldn't turn quality possession into goals.

Particularly unlucky was Tom Boyce who played magnificently, twice hit the woodwork but blazed over from eight yards when it seemed easier to score.

WITHERSFIELD Under 11s stole the cup from the grasp of Redhill Boys.

A very tense affair saw Withersfield crowned league champions on tour in Bognor Regis.

A league of ten of the best teams in the country fought it out over three long tiresome days with Withersfield claiming top spot.

Trophies presented by West Ham's Mark Noble were the icing on the cake for manager John Kennedy, who intuitively predicted that these boys were going all the way.

A great weekend was had by all with special thanks to a very fine bunch of supporting parents and an even finer, very talented local young football stars.

FRIENDLY

Volta Juniors 4

West Wratting 3

WRATTING certainly dominated the opening half with Cooper, Lambert and Bush finishing well, Stevenson and Scotton ran the central midfield zone with Bush and Foster playing the wings tirelessly.

Lambert and Cooper pressed the Volta defence as they cruised into half time ahead 3-2.
