Mildenhall recorded a comprehensive 158-run victory over local rivals Worlington in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One on Saturday, while there was also victories for Haverhill and Diss.

Hosting Mildenhall batted first at Wamil Way and thanks to half-centuries from Peter Worthington (64) and skipper Ben Shepperson (62), they were able to post a score of 279-9 from their 50 overs.

In contrast, Worlington’s reply never really gained any momentum after opener Ben Hyde was dismissed for a duck.

Only Jimmy Watson (69) and Chris Baugh (13) made double figures as the team was bowled out for just 121.

Mildenhall’s Tom Allen claimed four wickets, while Jack Bowman weighed in with three.

Elsewhere, Haverhill defeated Halstead by five runs, while Hadleigh slipped to defeat at the hands of Mistley.

In the Gibbs Denly East Anglian Premier Cricket League, Bury, Sudbury and Woolpit were all beaten.

However, there was more positive news for Burwell, who beat Norwich by 137 runs, thanks in part to Ben Seabrook’s knock of 66.

In the Dipple and Conway Opticians Norfolk Alliance Premier Division, a half-century from captain Terry Perry helped Old Buckenham win by a six-wicket margin over North Runcton.

Diss were also victorious over Sprowston, but Garboldisham lost away at bottom-placed Swardeston II.
