Haverhill Cricket Club’s first team go into another crunch match on Saturday without three of their first choice XI.

In-form opener Ant Phillips, whose last two scores have been 78 and 51, and all-rounders Dan Pass and Josh Ruthven are all on holiday and will miss the trip to Copford, who occupy last place in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One with just one win all season.

That sole victory came at Haverhill on May 7 when Copford edged home by just three runs, so skipper Adam Dellar and his team will be hoping to avoid a repeat result.

Dellar said: “It’s a tough game this Saturday. We are missing Ant, Passy and Josh so we are going to need to make changes.

“It’s not ideal for us so we will be slightly weaker but needless to say that gives other people an opportunity to come in and do well.

“Luckily for us our top five is not too heavily damaged.

“Hopefully I will get a big score soon. It’s difficult to captain and get a big score but I’m due one soon.”

Haverhill won by 127 runs at Hadleigh last Saturday to climb out of the bottom two and leave their vanquished opponents second-bottom instead, 14 points behind Haverhill.

•Will Bailey scored his first senior century for Haverhill, hitting 107 at home to Mildenhall in their Hunts County Bats Suffolk League Division One match on Sunday, which the away team won by six runs.
