Haverhill return to Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship action on Saturday looking for their first win in six weeks.
The side has not experienced the joy of victory since defeating Mistley by one wicket on May 21 and prior to last Saturday’s washed out match at Division One leaders Mildenhall had lost four on the bounce.
On Saturday, ninth-placed Haverhill - who are just 11 points above the bottom two - travel to Frinton II, a side that occupies sixth place but is only 15 points above their opponents.
After heavy losses to in-form Worlington, second-top Wivenhoe and fourth-placed Coggeshall in the past month, Haverhill will undoubtedly view Frinton as a more winnable game.
Frinton’s strength lies in their spin attack, led by skipper Lewis Catlow, who with 21 wickets is their top wicket taker and the division’s second most successful bowler, well backed up by Aussie Joe McDevitt and the experienced Russ Stockdale, with 16 and 13 wickets respectively
By contrast, Haverhill’s top two wicket takers are seamers Dan Pass with 12 and Will Bailey with ten.
Frinton’s batting is less of a force however and of the team only McDevitt has more than 200 runs to his name this season (212), compared to Haverhill for whom captain Adam Dellar has 269 runs, Ant Phillips 265 and Chris Palmer 229.
Haverhill XI: Dellar (c), Phillips, Palmer, Humphrey (wk), Ruthven, Pass, B Wilkins, Smith, Kettle, Bailey, C Brunning.
