Haverhill need to rediscover the ‘knack of winning’ in order to give the team more confidence for the challenges that lay ahead.
That’s the view of the team’s captain Joe Woodley as they prepare for a crucial Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One encounter with Maldon at Manor Road on Saturday (1pm).
The two sides occupy the bottom two places in the division, with Haverhill just three points ahead of their opponents.
Having won their opening two matches Maldon have since lost the next five and in their two most recent matches have failed to score 100 runs.
Despite having won only once this term, Haverhill have generally performed consistently, picking up decent bonus points even in defeat, helping them to overtake Maldon in the table despite having fewer wins.
On Saturday, Woodley hopes the players can not just maintain their recent performance levels but take them one notch higher.
He said: “We just need to find that knack of winning.
“If we can win convincingly against someone it gets that confidence back through our veins.
“We need to start picking up points and wins. Saturday is a very very important game.”
With injury doubts over Amit Gupta’s bowling, Haverhill have drafted in spinner Callum Brunning, who currently tops the Division Five wicket takers’ list with 14 dismissals, at the expense of Kyle Blanchard.
Brunning Haverhill: Gupta, Fox, L Youngs, Dellar. Savage, Phillips, Poole, Bradford, B Wilkins, C Brunning, Woodley.
