MOTOR COMPANY 1A Haverhill Borough
Great Chishill 0
Haverhill Borough Reserves secured their promotion into Kershaw Senior B following a 7-0 thrashing against Great Chishill on Saturday.
Requiring a point to advance into the senior league, Borough showed few nerves and took the lead after seven minutes when veteran Paul Hunt was on hand to half volley the ball into the empty net, after the Chishill keeper dropped a cross from the right.
Craig Pruden added a second for the hosts, collecting a long diagonal ball from Tom Lock which cleared the opposition centre back before holding up in the wind and calmly finishing past the onrushing keeper. Pruden doubled his tally 10 minutes later from a Josh Martin cross, with Martin himself making it 4-0 just before the break.
Scoring exploits in the second-half were left to Borough’s Tony Pearson, who completed a hat-trick in 40 minutes.
Pearson opened his account with an inch perfect free-kick from just outside the Chishill penalty area, and added Borough’s sixth by following up the goalkeeper’s parry from a Pruden shot.
Pruden was brought down in the box and Pearson completed the scoring from the penalty spot to seal a comfortable home win.
The victory guaranteed Haverhill promotion at the end of the season, with the league title more than likely to be won by second place Red Lodge, who need 12 points from their last five games to finish above Borough.
n Haverhill Borough’s (11th) first-team lost 2-1 at King’s Lynn Reserves (5th) on Saturday before seeing their Monday game with Leiston Reserves postponed.
