Haverhill Rovers 5 Halstead Town 1

RED INSURE CUP

Haverhill Rovers strolled through this first round match of the Red Insure Cup yesterday (Tuesday, November 20) to earn a meeting with Hadleigh United in the next round.

The match had been delayed from October 23 and rearranged to the New Croft after Halstead Town had a broken crossbar before the original game was due to start there.

Marcus Hunt’s volley from the edge of the D in the 29th minute found its way past goalkeeper Matt Walker.

Dan Cornwell’s confident finish on 41 minutes doubled the host’s lead.

Halstead pulled a goal back a minute into added time when Ellis Carter was brought down by Perry Moody and former Haverhill player Lee Hurkett converted the spot-kick.

Callum Harrison found the bottom corner of the net three minutes after half-time.

The striker then netted his second when he calmly stroked the ball across Walker on 77 minutes.

Sam Holmes’ header completed the scoring in the 89th minute.

Rovers next play at Ely City in the Thurlow Nunn Premier League on Saturday (November 24).

Rovers have now won their last four games (in all competitions) and has lost just two of the last ten (in the league).
