Haverhill Rovers’ board have thanked Peter Betts for his time at the club following the manager’s resignation.

The club’s committee said in a statement: “The Haverhill Rovers committee would like to announce that Peter Betts has resigned from his position as first team manager as he would like to focus more time on his role as the HCSA facility Manager and Community Football development officer and help progress both Rovers reserve and youth as well as players within the community through to senior level football.

“Pete will continue to work behind the scenes at the football club and the committee has asked Pete to continue to run the first team on an interim basis and be involved in an advisory role to help recruit a new suitable first team manager.

“Pete has agreed to this as he wants to ensure the club has enough time to conduct a structured recruitment process where we can review and discuss all possible candidates.

“At this point the club you like to thank Pete for the incredible job he has done over the last five years as he has overseen the development of the whole club including establishing our place in the Eastern Counties Premier division right through to implementing one of the best youth systems in the area.

“As already stated he will continue to play a major role in the development and future of our club and the highly talented players we are producing from within.”

When asked if any of the paid players would have to be sacrificed to fund a new manager, a spokesman replied: “We will ensure what ever deal is put in place it will be in the best interest of the rovers and this includes retaining our playing staff.”

Anyone wishing to apply for the post must have experience at step four, five or six in the non-league pyramid.
