Haverhill Rovers struck twice in the final 20 minutes to rescue a point from their trip to bottom club Swaffham Town at the weekend.

The hosts went ahead in the fifth minute when Rovers defender Owen Boddey could not get the ball away while under pressure, Mark Allibone dispossessed him and teed up Ben Champion to fire home.

At the other end, Ben Bradley, Rafal Wozniak and Rory Jebb all had efforts pushed away by the Swaffham goalkeeper Dan Gentry, before the home side surprisingly scored again in the 18th minute.

The visitors strongly debated an offside call which did not come and, with them at disarray, James Thompson touched a loose ball past Charlie Turner to make it 2-0.

Wozniak had a header saved before Haverhill thought they had a chance of an equaliser when Bradley was brought down in the box.

A penalty was about to be awarded, until the assistant referee’s offside flag denied them the opportunity.

After the break Rovers switched to their more familiar formation and Wozniak was twice kept out by the woodwork, before on 73 minutes they pulled one back.

A free kick eventually came out to Mitchell Burr who curled his volley just inside the near post to set up a tense finale.

With 80 minutes gone, Bradley’s first time pass found the feet of substitute Mason Newman and he found the far right corner to make it 2-2.
