Two red cards, as well as four yellows, went Haverhill’s way on a Friday evening which saw the home side’s spirited performance fall foul to Ely.

Rovers had a chance cleared off the Ely goal-line before they were reduced to 10 men on 24 minutes.

Harry Halls received a red card after denying Kelvin Enaro a goalscoring opportunity 25 yards out, with Jamie Alsop’s resulting free-kick striking the top of the bar.

In the 61st minute, Ely led and Haverhill were down to nine, Adam Sartini being sent off for handling the ball on the goal-line and Alex Theobald scoring from the penalty spot.

Despite the home side’s resolve, and their determined search for an equaliser, their fate was sealed in the 87th minute when Sam Holmes and Marcus Hunt both went for a cross from the left, leaving Enaro free to control the ball before finish past goalkeeper Charlie Turner into the bottom left corner.

n Haverhill Rovers Reserves climbed up to second place in Mead Plant & Grab Division 4A after recording a 4-1 win away at Milton A.

Justin Leavers gave the away side the lead seconds into firs- half added time, shooting across the goalkeeper after a low cross from the right had taken a small deflection off the heel of a defender.

Rovers doubled their lead three minutes after the break, Leavers being fouled in the penalty area and Kyle Clarke netting from the spot.

Billy Bush found the top left corner of the goal after 61 minutes, Rory Jebb made it 4-0 on 70 minutes, before Milton grabbed a late consolation.
