Devonports Haverhill 3

Hunts County IV 2

Devonports Haverhill produced a stunning comeback facing a Hunts County side that had put them out of the cup at the turn of the year.

Daryl Hester returned to the Devonports team and gave a good account, pitched against the Hunts skipper he went two sets down before he began to play his squash and took the third.

However, mistakes meant he could not quite force the match to a decider and was beaten 15-10, 15-4, 12-15, 15-9.

Skipper Malcolm Day also went two down in his match, before he began to work his way back, taking the third and then looking better placed in the fourth.

A tight fourth game managed to slip away from him though, as Day went down 15-13, 15-8, 8-15, 15-10.

Nathan Ttophi pulled the deficit back for Devonports with a sound performance, always in control Ttophi won through 15-8, 15-13, 15-13.

The match of the night saw Gary Last produce a great comeback.

After losing the opening two sets, he battled back, running down every point, and forced a decider, which he won to complete a 9-15, 12-15, 15-13, 15-10, 15-12 win.

In the final match of the night, Tony Archer was to continue his unbeaten run in 2017 with a dominant display.

Forcing the Hunts number one onto the back foot, he won the opener and then went onto control proceedings, crushing his opponent 15-10, 15-7, 15-2 to round off a great comeback for his team.

The win almost secures Devonports’ position in Division Three for next season.
