Haverhill Echo ten years ago

ECHO, March 3, 2005

Six police cars, a helicopter and a large number of officers were involved in a high speed chase that ended with a car flipping over on to its roof in Withersfield and two men being arrested on suspicion of stealing it.

The car had been pursued from Cambridge along the A1307 through Balsham and on to Withersfield before crashing.

The Haverhill Representative Alliance (HRA) was disbanded for the second time after two of its members announced they had joined the Liberal Democrats.

HRA town councillors Mick Graham and Chris Cullum joined the Lib Dem party, along with former Haverhill Independent Party town councillor Lesley Robinson.

The three councillors said: “Haverhill needs a strong and viable alternative to the Conservative and Labour parties.”

HRA founder Mabon Dane was left as the only member of the group, which formed in 2002 and took control of the town council in 2003 before being disbanded nine weeks later and then reforming.
