Organisers prepare for annual Kedington Meadowlark
With the 50th Kedington Meadowlark fast approaching, the organisers have chosen the event’s Princess and her two attendants.
The role of Miss Meadowlark is being taken by 12-year-old Daisy Edwards with Brodie Faircloth and Darcy Mansfield her attendants.
To mark the event’s golden anniversary, more than 20 previous Miss Meadowlarks will tour Kedington just before the walking pageant assembles at 12.15pm, ready for the judging of the best fancy dress on show. This year it has the theme of ‘gold.’
The Meadowlark Fete and walking pageant takes place , as always, at the Great Meadow , on June 16, with the pageant heading off around the arena at 1pm around, led by Miss Meadowlark and her attendants.
Also on the day will be a demonstration of fire eating by Pendragon Circus, music from Sawston Youth Band, hobby horse race heats, followed by a final, a demonstration of dance and of karate and a dog show.
Meadowlark co-ordinator, Bill Summers, says more stalls will be running this year, in keeping with the significance of the anniversary.
He added: “We have got a lot more stalls and it is going to be a really good, fun day.”
Prior to the fete and pageant, a host of Meadowlark events have been taking place.
They included a Meadowlark Bingo last Friday and a Quiz Night on Saturday, both at the community centre, a Children’s Duathlon, with running and cycling, at The Great Meadow on Sunday and a Scarecrow Festival around the village.
