A new hooker joins the front row at Haverhill Rugby Club

The Mayor of Haverhill, Cllr Betty McLatchy, got the chance to fulfil a long-held ambition of becoming a hooker (purely in the context of sport of course) when she attended Haverhill Rugby Club’s VIP lunch and opening league fixture against March Bears on Saturday, which they won 43-12.

Welsh-born Mrs McLatchy said she always fancied playing in the position at the centre of the scrum’s front row, so the club made it happen. She also became one of the club’s vice-presidents.
