Driver airlifted to hospital after falling ill at the wheel in Haverhill
A woman had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering a medical episode while driving her car in a residential area of Haverhill.
The woman, who is believed to be in her 70s, became unwell, according to a Suffolk Police spokesman, whilst driving a car in Weddell Road at about 8am on Saturday morning.
The incident resulted in a section of Chalkstone Way, from just past the Weddell Road junction to the Coupals Road mini-roundabout, being closed by the police for more than two hours.
A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Trust, said: "We were called at 7.57am with reports of an incident at Weddell Road, Haverhill on Saturday 1st June.
"We sent an ambulance officer, two rapid response vehicles, a land ambulance and an air ambulance from Essex and Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT).
"The patient was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital by air ambulance."
The East of England Ambulance Trust was unable to provide an update on the patient's condition.
