The night before Christmas turned out to be a very quiet one for Haverhill police, with very little trouble to report.

“We made no arrests on Christmas Eve at all and there were no real incidents to speak of,” said Inspector Peter Ferrie, area commander for Haverhill. “All was peaceful.

“I’m delighted. It’s been much the same for the last couple of years.

“When we’ve been out, it’s been very calm.

“The problems we have had in the past have really died down.

“I’m hoping it will be exactly the same on New Year’s Eve.”
