Arrest after man suffers burns in ‘arson’ attack

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire at a home in Haverhill.

Four crews from Haverhill, Clare and Wickhambrook attended a fire in a ground floor flat in Eastern Avenue at around 7.10pm last night (July 7).

They arrived to find the flat ‘well alight’ and worked until about 1.30am today to bring it under control.

A man was taken to West Suffolk Hospital after suffering minor burns to his face and hands and was discharged in the early hours of this morning.

The fire is believed to be suspicious and is being treated as an isolated incident.

A 53-year-old man has been arrested and remains in custody at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre where he will be interviewed by officers.
