Haverhill artist to stage new exhibition of paintings and sculptures

His show in 2009 was a fund-raiser for the Oncology Department at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where seven years previously he was treated for prostate cancer.

The money helped provide a triple infusion pump for the ward.

The retired welding engineer, who in the 11 years prior to his treatment for cancer ran an evening class in welding and sculpture at Comberton Village College, is hoping his work will prove that Haverhill has a healthy arts scene.

Edel, from Coupals Road, said: “The works are of a very high standard in painting and sculpture. This exhibition will raise the profile of art in the town.

“Each time we artists set ourselves a task it is to push ourselves to research and develop new work that is outstanding and beyond what we have done before.”

The exhibition is free and is being held in the East Town Park Countryside Centre in Coupals Road from Monday, June 23 to Friday 27, from m 10am to 5pm each day.

A total of 46 pieces of work are in the exhibition, mostly paintings but some sculptures in bronze and steel.

The paintings are done in various media and are largely of scenes, some from his travels to places that include Tuscany, Spain, Vienna and the north Norfolk coast.

The collection also features marine paintings and animals and all the works in the exhibition will be ready for sale.

There is free car parking at the centre for anyone visiting the exhibition.
