Ashdon Primary School received a letter last week from Nick Gibb, Minister of State for School Reform, congratulating year two children for achieving a 100 per cent pass rate in last summer’s phonics screening test.

Mr Gibb said the feat put the school in the top two per cent of all primary schools in the country.

Gary Brown, headteacher, said the letter was recognition of all the hard work put in by the staff, children and parents, adding: “As a school we do place a huge importance on the teaching of reading and it is pleasing to see the efforts of everyone recognised.”
