Balsham man arrested after stabbing

A man from Balsham has been remanded in custody following a stabbing in Haverhill.

Liam Allen, 18, of Mays Avenue, Balsham, has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was arrested following an incident in the Leiston Road, Greenfields Way area of Haverhill.

At about 11.40pm on Saturday, March 14, police received calls reporting an altercation in the car park at the community centre at Leiston Road.

The centre was hosting a private function at the time.

Officers attended and found an 18-year-old man at the end of Ixworth Road with what appeared to be a stab wound to his body.

The man was taken to Addenbrookes hospital.

His injury is not thought to be life-threatening.

Allen was arrested a short time later and taken into custody.

He was interviewed by officers before being charged with wounding and with possession of cannabis.

Allen was detained in custody and appeared before magistrates on the morning of Monday, March 16.

He has since been remanded in custody and is due to appear again on March 24.
