Car intercepted on the A11 by police after being clocked at 150mph

The driver of a BMW was caught on Wednesday doing more than double the national speed limit on a near-deserted dual carriageway.

The motorist was clocked doing more than 150mph (240km/h) in their BMW 330.

The car was first captured by a police helicopter camera from the National Police Air Service on the M11 in Essex, before taking the A11 that passes near Great Abington on its way towards Newmarket.

Traffic officers later "intercepted" the speeding driver on the A11 near Newmarket.

Police said the driver was "reported for dangerous driving and excess speed" after being "intercepted" by traffic officers and pulled over on the Newmarket bypass.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police pointed out that although roads may be deserted because of the coronovirus pandemic lockdown, the speeding laws still applied.

They added: "The world may have changed, but the speed limit and traffic laws remain the same."
