Linton childminder named in the top two best in the country

A childminder in Linton has claimed a notable triumph after being named as a runner-up in a national childcare competition.

Julie & Jo’s Childcare, in Rivey Close, was named runner-up in the Childminding Business of the Year category at the awards event held at The Brewery, in London, on Saturday.

The Nursery World award was open to childminders from across the UK and co-owner Julie Dixon said she and her team were ‘over the moon’ to have been shortlisted as a finalist by a prominent panel of expert judges from the childcare sector.

Julie said: “Both myself and my loyal and long-standing team are incredibly proud to have finished as runners-up.

“As this award was open to childminders from across the UK we are particularly pleased with this achievement.

“We have built up fantastic relationships with the parents and the children we look after, so they were also thrilled to hear the news.”

To become a finalist, Julie & Jo’s demonstrated outstanding caring, leadership and business skills to develop a thriving high quality childcare setting which delivers an inspiring and stimulating environment for children, staff and parents.

Julie, who said she had never before entered into a national competition, has worked as a childminder in Linton for 24 years and is rated as ‘outstanding’
by Ofsted.

The business is a real family affair with Julie working alongside two childminding assistants, her sister Jo Wells and daughter Abi Dixon as well as her husband Tony Dixon, who is also a qualified PE teacher.

Julie & Jo’s, which in 2015 underwent a £100,000 renovation programme that included installing underfloor heating and ensuring each room led directly to the outside play area, is open from 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday and also runs breakfast and after school clubs.
