Class expansion is tailor-made for Haverhill pupils

A popular Haverhill school is celebrating after opening an extension which will allow them to provide more tailored and individual support to pupils.

The much-needed extra space at Westfield Primary Academy will allow staff to provide one-to-one support to pupils away from the classroom.

Headteacher Nicky Tyler revealed the extension, which is part of the existing school building, had become essential.

Mrs Tyler said: “It came about as we identified that we were running out of space as the school had simply become full.

“We had two classes per year group all the way up to Year 6. Alongside this we have booster intervention groups which are run to provide extra support to those pupils who may need it.

“They might need a little more help with reading, writing or maths and the new extension allows us to offer them a quieter, one-to- one, space to really assist their studying.”

The extension offers the opportunity for two new learning spaces – or one big one – with after-school clubs also using the facility including sessions run by Haverhill-based Prestige Sports.

Mrs Tyler added: “It is fantastic to have this wonderful learning space for our children as it will enable them, when necessary, to really focus and concentrate on their learning.”

Westfield Primary Academy is part of the Samuel Ward Academy Trust.
