Firefighters were called to a blaze involving 15 acres of standing crop on Sunday, August 23.

Crews from Wickhambrook, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Burwell and the water carrier from Newmarket were called to land off Broad Road, Little Thurlow, just before 2pm.

Firefighters found the field well alight and tackled the blaze using hosereels and beaters.

The quick-thinking farmer also assisted with the fire fighting efforts by ploughing a fire break to stop the flames spreading across the crops.

The fire was eventually brought under control at 2.50pm and all crews had departed the scene by 3.01pm.
