Search dogs and police helicopters were called in to search the Withersfield Road area in Great Wratting last Wednesday (July 9) following a suspected burglary.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the burglary, which they believe took place between 1pm and 3.35pm.

Officers were called to an address on Withersfield Road when a resident returned home to find they couldn’t unlock the door as a key had been put in the lock from the inside. A side door was also found to be open and a rear window had been smashed.

Alarmed, the victim called the police who arrived quickly and began a thorough search of the area. A Samsung mobile phone and items of jewellery were found to be missing.

The offender, however, could not be located and police believe they escaped across fields at the rear of the property.

Anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the village or who has any information should contact the Bury St Edmunds Priority Crime Team on 101 quoting reference HH/14/1352, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
