Disgust has been expressed after thieves targeted a building site in Haverhill.

Builders had been working to renovate the square when a container housing their equipment was broken into and items were stolen from inside.

The incident took place between 4.15pm on April 20 and 7.15am on April 21.

Thieves took equipment worth about £2.400 in total, including a hydraulic breaker and disc cutter.

Councillor Tony Brown said: “I’m dismayed that someone would do this.

“The point of their [the builders] being up there is that they’re trying to do some good work. It’s a pity that some people are trying to make things difficult for their own personal gain.

“It’s just something that could, unfortunately, put the work back a couple of weeks, but hopefully not.

“Hopefully people can keep their eyes open. If they see anything suspicious, I would hope they would call the police.”

Anyone with information should call the police on 101, quoting HH/15/938 or 943.
