GOLD TRIUMPH OVER ADVERSITY BY FIONA

A Haverhill woman who had battled Leukaemia four times as a child, was presented with a Duke of Edinburgh gold award by Prince Phillip himself.

Fiona Bowman, 25, of Hazel Stud Farm, received the top honour at St James’ Palace at a ceremony also attended by Eastenders actress Jill Halfpenny.

“The gold award took three years,” said Fiona. “It was a way of having experiences I wouldn’t normally try. It has definitely improved my confidence.”

TIME TO COME UP WITH AN IDEA.

A time capsule was to be buried in the foundations of a new museum building at Duxford.

Members of the public were asked for their suggestions on what could be put inside.

The capsule was to be buried inside the £24 million AirSpace project, which was set to open in 2007.

The museum aimed to inspire children to find out more about the history of British aviation.

Prizes were to be awarded for ideas that made it in.
