SURVEY SHOWS TOWN IS DEPRESSION CAPITAL

A new study revealed that there were more depressed people in Haverhill than anywhere else in the UK.

Dr Pete Luck, who surveyed 756 patients at Christmas Maltings surgery in Camps Road, said: “Despite the apparent improvement in our standards of living, symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress related illness seem to be increasing in society.

“And this seems as true, if not more so, for the community of Haverhill.”

His survey found that 27 per cent of respondents were significantly depressed.

VANDAL-HIT HALL MAY STILL BE IN DANGER

A village hall which came close to closing after constant attacks from vandals, may have turned a corner.

Wickhambrook Memorial Social Centre had windows smashed, bottle banks turned over and two break ins on the same day.

Manager, Steve Taylor, said: “It had a negative effect and it got to within months of the village hall being closed.”

But Mr Taylor said things had started to improve after they contacted the police.
