There were wizards, vampires and ghosts aplenty settling down to work alongside knights and aliens as schools marked World Book Day.

Classrooms were taken over by children in fancy dress costumes for the annual event that encourages youngsters to take on the appearance of their favourite book character.

At Kedington Primary School the various year groups choose different themes, including Alice and Wonderland and Harry Potter, in honour of the day, which aims to make reading entertaining and engaging for children of all ages.

Pupils at Coupals Primary School in Haverhill also got in the spirit of the occasion along with Stepping Stones Under 5’s, with many students going the extra mile by using face paints to become book characters.

Not to be outdone children at Westfield Primary Academy also got in on the action, taking part in a range of activities based around their love of reading and competing in a competition designing their own book covers.
