Matthew Hancock retained his Suffolk West seat with a majority of nearly 15,000.

There were no real surprises at the count at Newmarket Leisure Centre with the results finally announced at 4.42am.

Thirty-six-year-old Mr Hancock who first won the seat at the last election in 2010 with a majority of more than 13,000 thanked his supporters for all their hard work. UKIP’s Julian Flood polled 10,700 pushing Labour’s Michael Jefferys down into third place with 8,604.
