Felixstowe & Walton 3 Haverhill Rovers 2

A lacklustre first 15 minutes and an error at a set piece were Haverhill’s undoing as Felixstowe ended their seven match unbeaten run in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.

The hosts were quickly 2-0 up and the looked the better side for the first quarter of this match.

A ball over the top after three minutes caught out the away defence and Remi Garrett squared the ball towards Jamie Cole, whose original close range effort was blocked but ricocheted off goalkeeper Elliott Anderson and Marcus Hunt back into his path for a tap in.

The second Felixstowe goal came in the 12th minute after a mistake by away defender Perry Moody.

He lost the ball to Cole and his rash attempt to win back the ball sent the Felixstowe player tumbling just inside the penalty area.

Ben Cranfield sent Anderson the wrong way to score from the spot kick.

Haverhill finally got into the game and got their just rewards in the 28th minute.

An attempted pass by Callum Harrison deflected back into his path and his low left foot shot found the bottom right corner of the net past home ‘keeper Daniel Crump’s fingertips.

The hosts’ third goal came in the 68th minute from a free kick on the left, Daniel Davis stealing in unmarked at the back post to bundle his header past Anderson and restore his side’s two goal lead.

There was still time for hope of a point for Haverhill after Harrison’s shot struck the arm of substitute Nathan Szyszlyk and a penalty kick was controversially given.

Dan Cornwell’s sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, although Cornwell and his team mates were unable to find the further goal they needed to level the match.
