Former Haverhill Bishop back in town

Former bishop Graeme Knowles was back at Haverhill’s St Mary’s Church last Sunday for a special service at which six candidates were confirmed.

Two of the six were also baptised during the service, while the others renewed the vows made on their behalf at their own baptisms.

The service took place in front of a congregation of around 80 people, who promised to support the newly-confirmed candidates in their faith.

Speaking after the service, Bishop Graeme, who last visited St Mary’s in November last year, said, “It’s always good to come to Haverhill.

“It was especially good this year to be able to confirm candidates right across the age range, who are involved with all aspects of the ministry of the church, from our Baby and Toddler group to the work of the Town Pastors.”

The choral music at the church included a special performance of Teach Me to Dance by Graham Kendrick. Captain Andrew Payne, benefice missioner at St Mary’s said, “The service was a wonderful occasion for them, their families and the rest of St Mary’s.”
