Almost 30 projects in St Edmundsbury have been supported with more than £130,000 in the third year of Havebury Housing’s Neighbourhood Investment Panel (NIP).

Now Havebury wants to hear about other projects that will directly benefit the community or Havebury tenants before the financial year ends in March as there is still nearly £70,000 remaining from the £200,000 pot.

The NIP, made up of tenants and independent representatives, reviews applications from local groups and organisations for grants to make estate improvements or invest in community initiatives. Havebury’s grants have helped projects secure a total of £388,457 in match funding.

Projects that have already been supported include £4,199 for Chalkstone Community car parking and £1,000 to help replace rotting floorboards at Cowlinge Village Hall.

Havebury’s Chief Executive Karen Mayhew said: “Havebury is committed to improving our communities and supporting those local groups that are integral to the lives of our tenants. The Neighbourhood Investment Panel is an ideal way for us to do this.”

The Neighbourhood Investment Panel currently has two vacancies for tenants on the panel. Tenants will need to attend at least four meetings a year and Havebury will provide training and pay expenses such as child care and travel. If any tenant is interested in helping the community and would like to be part of the panel, then please contact Lauren Porter on 01284 722035.

Havebury, which has offices in Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds, is dedicated to serving both the existing and future housing needs of people in West Suffolk and the Cambridge sub-region. A charity and not-for-profit association, it currently manages 6,000 homes.
