A large number of people turned out to see a Haverhill playgroup re-open its revamped garden area in the name of a girl who once used it but later died of cancer at the age of just 14.

Sandcastle Playgroup at Castle Manor Academy in Eastern Avenue, reopened the garden during its open day on Saturday and has called its Jess’s Garden.

It has been named in memory of Jess Gower, who lived in nearby Arrendene Road and attended the playgroup and later Linton Village College but tragically died so young due to bone cancer in December 2010.

Jess’s mum Shirley and sister Issy (far right and third from right in the photo) were at the event.
