Young visitors took the chance to make their Christmas wishes known while also getting an extra something for their stockings when Santa Claus brought his grotto to a Haverhill shopping precinct on Saturday.

Traders in Queen’s Square chipped together to provide the grotto and live music and refreshments during the Family Christmas Night on December 4.

It proved such a success - so much so that the presents ran out and a dash had to be made to pick up some more - that they decided to open it again on Saturday.

The public response has been such that the grotto - for which children were charged £2 each to see Santa - has raised a total of £650 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.
