Hair and cosmetics couple in sync with ‘LineAH’ move

A husband and wife team say they have found the right work-life balance after launching their own hair and cosmetics businesses in the same building in Haverhill.

Amy McNally opened LineAH Aesthetics in premises at Chauntry Mills, in High Street, in November and when a downstairs space became available her husband Chris set up LineAH Hair in June.

Amy, 34, specialises in permanent cosmetics – predominantly for eyebrows, eye liner, lips and beauty spots – which also includes free medical nipple and areola tattooing for those who have had breast cancer.

Meanwhile, Chris, 44, cuts and styles men’s and women’s hair after a 27-year career in the industry.

As the couple have a young family, the move has allowed them to find a good-work life balance – especially for Chris who used to commute for Cambridge.

Chris said: “Being self-employed is really good because you have so much more control over your own business.

“We wanted to develop my wife’s brand as well and because she does beauty and I do hair, we complement each other really well. We work together well as a team.”

During his career, Chris worked mainly for Toni & Guy and was a salon manager for the company in Cambridge.

Amy has worked in the permanent cosmetics industry for four years after training with Nouveau Countour/KB Pro Karen Betts’ training academy.

She first came across medical tattooing while working in the maxillofacial department at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Previously, she worked as a dental nurse and went on to assess dental nurses.

She started by renting a room from a local beauty salon, built a client base and completed the medical training in April. Her other services include IPL hair reduction and medical treatments for acne and thread veins.

Amy said: “When the premises below my clinic came up for lease, it was like our dreams had come true. We had always discussed working together in the future and our chance was here, LineAH Hair was born.

“Chris leaving his manager position at Toni & Guy was a risk but to be able to now have a better work-life balance and enjoy family life while having a profitable business is definitely what we dreamed of.”
