Haverhill Silver Band secured a top six place at the First Section National Brass Band Finals in Cheltenham on Sunday (20).

Having put in a strong performance of the set test piece, The Alchymist’s Journal, the band were placed sixth in a field of 17 of the country’s top bands.

Despite the piece posing many musical and technical challenges, the adjudicators said that Haverhill’s was ‘a fine performance.’

The band thanked Marshall Aerospace, IFF, Herberts and the town council for their financial support and the Castle Partnership Academy Trust for providing rehearsal facilities. Their next concert is at Thaxted Church on October 24.
